Ongoing Research

To ensure that HPRAC is current with the 'state of the art' in health regulatory policy, the Council conducts regular and ongoing research and reviews of initiatives in jurisdictions in Canada and elsewhere, changing health service delivery mechanisms, and evolving health human resources issues, and evaluates their impact and importance on the progress of regulated health professions.  Similarly, it reviews case law to determine if there are emerging issues that could affect Ontario health professions, professionals and members of the public.

Criteria for Regulation of a New Profession

In 2005, HPRAC conducted a review of its criteria for the Regulation of a New Profession, and a review of criteria for the addition of a new controlled act under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991. The Criteria and sponsor's questionnaire are posted in "Reports and Resources - Other HPRAC Resources".

Criteria for a Change in or Addition to a Profession's Scope of Practice

In June, 2005 HPRAC completed its review of criteria for changes in or additions to the scope of practice of a profession. The Criteria and sponsor's questionnaire are posted in "Reports and Resources - Other HPRAC Resources"   

Rule Making Authority

HPRAC began a review of issues surrounding rule-making authority in the process of preparing the New Directions report and its consideration of the regulation-making process in health professions.  Research in this area continues.
